Business Mentorship News:

Please welcome Anuschka Steigemann, our new Business Mentorship Coordinator who can advise on business resources to get you on track to success. You can reach her at anuschka@cceda.ca with any of your business questions, and stay tuned for upcoming business-related support and events.

CCEDA sends a warm thank you to departing Tamlyn Collingwood for all her hard work with local entrepreneurs this year. Tamlyn will be spending more time on her own business, Twigroot Botanicals.

CCEDA was fortunate to have secured funding to launch a public engagement for both Cortes and Quadra to devise a community-led plan to bring greater passenger transportation options to our area.

This project aims to provide an opportunity for residents of Quadra, Cortes and nearby underserved islands to come together in a facilitated community consultation to confirm:

1. The best alternative transportation option(s) that would meet the needs of both communities (including but not limited to a community bus), and

2. Routes, schedules, potential non-profit organisation structure and service details for implementation to move forward to support these options.

Update of the 2018 Local Economic Action Plan (LEAP) started in the fall of 2023, with a series of facilitated Community Conversation Cafes on various strategic areas of LEAP.

Topics covered were Small Business, Education, Food Security, Tourism and Transportation.   The community input generated from these engagements will be used to update LEAP, which is scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2024 in order to include recommendations from the new Tourism Planning Project, and Transportation Solutions public engagement.

Please read why update of the Local Economic Action Plan is important for Cortes: https://cortescurrents.ca/a-blueprint-for-cortes-islands-future-why-the-conversation-cafes-are-important/
